About

My name is Kurt Gallagher and I’m a web developer and designer. I’ve been creating applications for the web just for fun since high school. Most of my skills lie under the hood of the website, I am most comfortable dealing with databases and the languages that link them to the web. You can see examples of my past work here on this blog.

I’m currently employed at GMU-TV at George Mason University as a web developer, and I am a part of Outside The Lab, a design firm for web and print. It’s pretty busy right now! I’m just looking for as much work as I can get at the moment to build my skills in a demonstrable way. I’m working my way up to be able to attend classes at George Mason and finish my degree in Computer Science. I’m also working closely with my good friends and colleagues Andy Palumbo and Kris Celeste to build Outside The Lab into a successful business and full time job for all of us.

Despite all the business I seem to be involved with these days, I still have a lot of spare time. I enjoy editing video for fun, perhaps one day I’ll make a real movie or documentary. For now, this video will have to do. I also enjoy mixing music, playing video games, tabletop gaming with some friends once a week, and finding new and interesting beer.

Disco Shiny was a catchphrase I started using at the MML while working on the invoicing system. Its meaning is sort of impossible to put into words, but I have attempted to do so in the sidebar. I think I got the idea from Rex The Dog, an amazing electro artist, but I haven’t been able to find it again since I first saw it (if I ever did). I blended my love of clean, intuitive interfaces with some amount of design to create first the invoicing system and then this site. Do you like it?
